The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) is committed to the power of community-led initiatives to drive positive change. Their mission is to invest in innovative and viable solutions across Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly in disadvantaged or excluded communities.
How It Works
Step 1: Check if Your Organization Can Apply
- IAF supports community-led projects by local and grassroots organizations in independent countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Organizations must have a history of effective collaboration and demonstrate the capability to use grant funds.
Currently Unable to Fund Organizations in:
- Cuba
- Venezuela
- U.S., British, French, or other territories
IAF Does NOT Fund Proposals From:
- Government entities
- Individuals
- Privately-held companies
- Groups that do not contribute resources to proposed activities

Step 2: Check if Your Project Qualifies for Funding
- Funding ranges from US $25,000 to $400,000.
- Organizations must commit resources (counterpart) to advance development initiatives.
Tips for a Successful Proposal
- Be inclusive
- Use community resources
- Identify a path to sustainability
- Focus on positive and measurable impact
IAF Does NOT Fund Proposals For:
- Purely religious activities
- Research activities exclusively
- Only construction and equipment
- Charity or welfare projects
- Projects associated with political parties or partisan movements
Step 3: Complete Your Application in Our Portal
- Apply in Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, or Haitian Creole through the online grants management portal, GovGrants.
- No cost to apply; multiple applications accepted.

Step 4: Wait as IAF Reviews Your Application
- Within 120 days, IAF will update organizations on the application’s status through GovGrants.
- Check status anytime; IAF will contact if further information is needed.
