The British Academy’s Visiting Fellowships programme is now open for applications. This initiative offers academics from any country the opportunity to be based at a UK higher education or research institution for up to six months, fostering collaborative projects with UK colleagues.

Programme Overview
The Visiting Fellowships programme, funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, is designed to enhance international collaboration in the humanities and social sciences. It provides an exceptional opportunity for academics at any career stage to work in the UK and develop new partnerships.
Aims
- Enhance and Build Links: Strengthen connections between global scholars and their UK counterparts.
- Foster Partnerships: Encourage the development of new and ongoing collaborative research in the humanities and social sciences.
- Support Research and Professional Development: Enable international academics to conduct research and professional development activities with UK colleagues.
- Strengthen UK Research Bases: Bolster the UK’s standing in the humanities and social sciences.
Eligibility Requirements
- Academic Level: Applicants must be at postdoctoral level or have equivalent research experience.
- Location: Candidates should be based outside the UK at the time of application.
- Contracts: Applicants on fixed-term contracts must ensure their contract does not end before the fellowship’s conclusion. Independent scholars are also eligible.
- Host Institution: Applicants must have established contact with a UK host institution before applying. The British Academy cannot facilitate this contact.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Applications are particularly encouraged from historically and/or structurally disadvantaged groups, low-income countries, and female researchers.
Value and Duration
- Duration: Fellowships last between three and six months.
- Funding: Up to £40,000 is available per fellowship.
- Start Dates: Preferred start dates should fall between March and August 2025.

The deadline for applications is 17:00 (GMT) on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024.
