Call for Applications: Qualified and Experienced Scholars for Online Teaching Courses at Joint Facility for Electives 2024 at AERC
The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), a renowned not-for-profit organization, invites qualified scholars to apply for Visiting Lectureships at the Joint Facility for Electives (JFE) in 2024. This unique opportunity allows experienced academics to contribute to the Collaborative Master’s Programme (CMAP) and the Collaborative PhD Programme (CPP), offering advanced courses to postgraduate students.
About AERC: Established in 1988, AERC focuses on policy research and training to enhance local capacity for independent inquiry into sub-Saharan African management issues. AERC’s activities include economic research, graduate training, and policy outreach, making it one of the world’s leading institutions with a specific focus on Africa.
The Joint Facility for Electives (JFE): JFE provides an intensive teaching environment, offering elective courses in CMAP and CPP. From June to November, postgraduate students are taught by internationally sourced visiting lecturers. The innovative virtual teaching method began in 2020, allowing students from collaborating universities to access courses online. The JFE encourages networking, structured idea exchange, and resource sharing.

Qualifications:
- PhD in Economics or related field
- Senior academic rank (Senior Lecturer and above)
- 3+ years teaching experience for CMAP, 5+ years for CPP
- Experience in thesis supervision
- Publication record in recognized sources
Remuneration: Successful candidates will receive an attractive remuneration upon completing the assignment.
Terms of Reference: Visiting lecturers are expected to:
- Teach assigned courses virtually
- Administer and grade tests and assignments
- Prepare end-of-semester examinations
- Facilitate student preparation for exams
- Participate in joint seminar series
- Provide assistance in thesis research preparation
- Present at least one paper in the weekly seminars
- Prepare a comprehensive course evaluation report
