Traineeships: Become a Council of Europe Trainee and Help Defend Human Rights(Fully-funded with monthly allowance)

Twice a year, we open our doors to young graduates, offering them a unique opportunity to gain invaluable experience in a dynamic and multicultural work environment. As an organization dedicated to promoting human rights, we thrive on the enthusiasm, motivation, and fresh perspectives that new graduates bring.
Our Traineeships:
- Duration: Eight weeks to five months
- Locations: Strasbourg or one of our field offices
- Sessions: Two sessions per year (starting in March and October)
Only candidates who apply online through our official traineeship program will be eligible for a monthly allowance of 600 €.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for a traineeship, candidates must:
- Hold the nationality of one of the Council of Europe member states.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- For traineeships at the European Court of Human Rights, hold a Masters 1 or equivalent.
- Have a desire to gain practical experience and knowledge of the Council of Europe’s functioning and activities.
- Have a very good command of either English or French, along with good drafting ability. Knowledge of the other official language is appreciated.
Please note that previous trainees/study visitors within the Council of Europe may not undertake another traineeship within the organization.
Responsibilities:
Trainees will be entrusted with various responsibilities, including:
- Research work
- Preparation of draft reports and studies
- Drafting meeting reports
- Assistance with ongoing tasks
- Committee organization
- Website updates
Programme:
We provide a comprehensive induction programme for trainees, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the structures, activities, and international cooperation procedures of the Council of Europe. Trainees will have the opportunity to attend conferences, parliamentary assembly sittings, and other relevant meetings.
Conditions:
Trainees in the official traineeship programme receive a monthly allowance. Specific measures are available for candidates with disabilities, and self-financing options, such as scholarships from international funds like Erasmus+, are encouraged.
