U.S. Department of State’s FAIT Fellowship Program (Fully-funded)
Are you a talented and diverse student pursuing a degree in Information Technology (IT)? If so, the U.S. Department of State has an exciting opportunity for you! The Foreign Affairs Information Technology (FAIT) Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications until January 16, 2024. This two-year fellowship program, in collaboration with The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), offers financial support and unique experiences to students in IT-related post-secondary degree programs, including accredited online programs.
Diversifying the U.S. Foreign Service
The FAIT Fellowship is a part of the U.S. Department of State’s ongoing efforts to diversify its Information Management Specialist workforce within the U.S. Foreign Service. The program actively encourages applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in the Foreign Service, aiming to reflect the diversity of the United States. Financially challenged individuals are also welcome to apply.
Eligibility Criteria
If you’re an undergraduate entering your junior year or a graduate student beginning a two-year master’s program in an IT-related field, you’re eligible to apply for this opportunity. To be considered, you must:
– Be a U.S. citizen at the time of application.
– Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale throughout your participation in the program.
For undergraduate candidates:
– Community college students pursuing an associate degree should plan to transition to a full-time, IT-related bachelor’s program in Fall 2024 with the goal of graduating in Spring 2026.
– Four-year college/university students must be enrolled full-time in an IT-related bachelor’s program and on track to graduate in Spring 2026.
– If you’re enrolled in an accelerated IT-related bachelor’s/master’s degree program, you must be on track to graduate in Spring 2026.
For graduate candidates:
– You should intend to begin a full-time, IT-related master’s program in Fall 2024 and plan to graduate in Spring 2026.
Benefits of the FAIT Fellowship
Selected students will receive substantial support, including:
– Academic support of up to $43,500 annually, covering tuition, room and board, books, mandatory fees, and some travel expenses for the two-year program.
– Stipends, housing, and travel allowances for two internship experiences, one at the Department of State in Washington, D.C., and another at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate abroad.
– Upon successful completion of the program and meeting the State Department’s entry requirements, Fellows will receive an appointment in the Foreign Service as an Information Management Specialist.
