Children First Canada Youth Advisory Council 2024-2025 Application
Are you passionate about advocating for children’s rights and making a difference for youth in Canada? Apply now to join the Children First Canada Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for 2024-2025!
YAC Purpose The Youth Advisory Council aims to:
- Share youth voices on Children First Canada’s programs, initiatives, and decision-making processes.
- Act as spokespeople for the organization through public speaking and media opportunities.
- Demonstrate leadership on issues affecting youth in Canada.
- Develop and model youth engagement practices.
- Inform and activate other children and youth about advocacy and rights.
- Create initiatives that bring about change in children’s rights.
Member Responsibilities As a YAC member, you will:
- Provide input and advice on all Children First Canada projects and advocacy efforts.
- Attend a 1.5-hour virtual meeting each month and dedicate at least 5 hours per month to YAC activities.
- Participate in National Children’s Day each November.
- Learn about and share information on children’s rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child with other youth.
Selection Criteria To be eligible, you must:
- Be a young person living in Canada between the ages of 12-18.
- Note: If you are 18 and turning 19 between September 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, you are not eligible for this council.
- Be passionate about children’s rights and creating change for other children in Canada.
- Have access to Wi-Fi or Zoom (as meetings are held virtually).
We encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous, Black, or racialized individuals, people with disabilities, those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, and anyone who can bring new and diverse perspectives to our YAC.
