Georg Forster Research Fellowship for Sustainable Development
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grants the Georg Forster Research Fellowship to researchers in all disciplines from developing and emerging countries who have above-average qualifications. We particularly welcome applications from female scientists.
With this fellowship, the Humboldt Foundation acknowledges the important role of researchers from these countries in achieving the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals and thus provides them with sponsorship that is equivalent to the Humboldt Research Fellowship.
Programme Information:
- Postdocs: Conduct your own research in Germany with a monthly fellowship of €2,670 for 6 to 24 months.
- Experienced Researchers: Conduct research in Germany with a monthly fellowship of €3,170 for 6 to 18 months, which can be divided into up to three stays within three years.
General Conditions:
- Flexible start dates.
- Personal support throughout the sponsorship.
- Intensive German language course for fellows and marital partners.
- Additional financial support for family benefits, health insurance, and travel expenses.
Eligibility:
- Postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers from developing or transition countries.
- Research must contribute to the further development of your region of origin.
- Postdocs must have completed their doctorate in the last four years or be within six months of completing it.
- Experienced researchers must have completed their doctorate in the last twelve years.

Deadlines: The Selection Committee meets every February, June, and October. Applications are processed within four to eight months. Incomplete applications may take longer and could be postponed to a later meeting.
