Internship Overview

UN Women seeks an intern to support the legislative and data monitoring activities of the women’s political participation team at HQ and aid in the renewal of the Women in Local Government website. The intern will be supervised by the Policy Specialist on Local Government and will assist in several niche areas related to women’s political participation, such as representation in local government, electoral information, and women’s participation in political processes, including suffrage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Website Support: Assist in updating the Women in Local Government website by monitoring legislative changes, reviewing new legal provisions, and formatting and uploading information.
  • Data and Electoral Information: Conduct a global mapping of electoral information and data on women’s political participation by reviewing electoral laws and disseminated information.
  • Research: Undertake research on various topics related to women’s political participation, including women’s suffrage.
  • Additional Support: Aid other activities related to women’s political participation, including organizing meetings.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • University studies in Political Science, Social Sciences, Law, Human Rights, International Relations, Gender Studies, or a related field.
  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
    • Graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within two years of graduation.
    • Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program part of a degree program.

Language

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Remuneration

Interns not receiving financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize basic living costs during the internship.
