The Women & Gender Constituency (WGC) is thrilled to announce the opening of the application period for the 2024 Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards! These awards recognize and celebrate innovative climate solutions that promote gender equality and contribute to a sustainable and just future.

Eligibility:
- Projects must have been ongoing for at least one year.
- Open to activist, grassroots, women-led, and gender equality organizations working on climate change.
- Only non-governmental initiatives are eligible.

About the Women & Gender Constituency:
Established in 2009, the WGC is one of the nine stakeholder groups under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Comprising 33 women’s and environmental civil society organizations, the WGC works to embed women’s voices and rights within the UNFCCC framework, aiming for a sustainable and just future with gender equality at the core.
Since its inception in 2015, the Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards have showcased impactful initiatives such as women-owned energy cooperatives, advocacy for women’s land tenure rights, and gender-responsive water technologies.
Award Categories:
- Technical Climate Solutions:
- Focus on technologies like water, renewable energy, food production, digitalization, and waste reduction.
- Non-Technical Climate Solutions:
- Emphasize behavioral change, mutual learning, skills sharing, and capacity strengthening.
- Transformational Climate Initiatives:
- Focus on governance, institutional or societal change, and challenging patriarchal norms.
Selection Criteria:
- Women’s Rights and Gender Equality:
- Ensures equal access to benefits for all genders.
- Alleviates additional burdens on women.
- Empowers women through improved mobility, livelihood security, food security, health, and access to safe water.
- Promotes women’s democratic rights and participation.
- Climate Resilience:
- Locally led and driven initiatives.
- Self-sufficient and sustainable projects.
- Contributions to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- Scaling-Up and Transfer:
- Projects that can be replicated and scaled up.
- Show interlinkages to issues such as peace-building, natural resource management, food security, health, and sanitation.
Selection & Awards:
An international jury will review the initiatives, and three winning projects—one from each category—will be selected. Winners will receive:
- A monetary prize of 5,000 euros.
- Travel expenses to attend the Award ceremony at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
- Mentorship from WECF and WGC members, in partnership with the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).
Up to 20 nominated projects will be featured in the Gender and Climate Solutions publication, distributed at COP29 and published on the WGC and WECF websites.
How to Apply:
- Application Period: June 3rd to July 21st, 2024 (midnight CEST).
- Submission: Complete the application form by the deadline. You can save the form as a draft and continue later, but ensure it is thoroughly completed before submission.
- Confirmation: After submission, you will receive a confirmation email.
