Position Overview

Title: Programme Officer, Chevening Scholarships
Pay Band: 6
Salary: Starting from £25,520 plus £3,300 London Market Allowance (for London-based roles only)

About the Chevening and Marshall Scholarships

The British Council is the Secretariat for the prestigious Chevening and Marshall Scholarships, funded by the UK government. These programmes select around 1,500 scholars from over 100 countries to study at postgraduate level in the UK. As part of this role, you will support the administration, promotion, selection, and alumni engagement for these scholarships, ensuring a life-changing experience for scholars.

Role Responsibilities

As a Programme Officer, you will:

  • Be the Primary Contact: Provide excellent customer service, responding to scholar queries promptly.
  • Manage Scholar Finances: Set up profiles on the financial system, ensuring timely stipends and allowances.
  • University Liaison: Maintain strong relationships with universities to facilitate scholar placements and tuition payments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work with partners, FCDO, and overseas Posts to ensure programme success.
  • Event Coordination: Support planning and execution of scholar events, enhancing their UK experience.
  • Database Management: Update and maintain financial and information systems.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Assist in producing scholarship materials and support the distribution of official documents.

Key Accountabilities

  • Customer Service: Address scholar inquiries with high-quality responses, escalating issues as needed.
  • Financial Administration: Ensure timely payment of stipends and manage payment records.
  • University Relations: Serve as the main contact for universities, facilitating scholar placements and fee payments.
  • Event Support: Organize and support scholar events, contributing to the engagement strategy and event evaluation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various teams, including Welfare, Communications, Alumni Relations, and Partnerships.

Requirements

  • Eligibility: Must have the legal right to work in the UK at the time of application.
  • Experience: Knowledge of UK postgraduate education, strong administrative skills, and a commitment to customer care.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, excellent communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
