Organizational Context

Addressing climate change is a priority for UNDP globally, with initiatives like the Climate Promise and the NDC Support Programme supporting countries, including Ghana, to implement their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

UNDP’s programme in Ghana aims to:

  • Strengthen public institutional capacities to address environmental degradation and climate change.
  • Facilitate access to information, knowledge, and tools for green jobs, environmental conservation, and community resilience.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and other institutions to implement gender-responsive climate actions and mobilize financial resources.

Position Purpose

The Programme Analyst will facilitate access to innovative tools and approaches for climate mitigation, adaptation, resilience, and environmental conservation. The role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders to support the implementation of Ghana’s climate agenda.

Key Duties and Accountabilities

  1. Programme Strategy Implementation
    • Identify support areas and provide technical assistance.
    • Engage in the United Nations Sustainable Development Partnership.
    • Prepare briefings and speeches for UNDP senior management.
  2. Programme Management
    • Monitor project activities and progress.
    • Design and formulate programmes in environment and climate.
    • Coordinate programme implementation and ensure quality control.
    • Provide financial and substantive monitoring and evaluation.
  3. Strategic Partnerships and Resource Mobilization
    • Develop partnerships with UN agencies, government, donors, and private sector.
    • Conduct analysis and research on donors.
    • Provide technical support in donors’ sector working groups.
  4. Policy Advice and Knowledge Management
    • Identify sources of information on policy issues.
    • Contribute to the development of policies and institutions addressing sustainable development.
    • Facilitate knowledge building and management.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education: Advanced degree (Master’s) in Environmental Science, Economics, Development Studies, etc., or a Bachelor’s degree with additional experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years (with Master’s) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s) in relevant areas. Experience with UN or development agencies is an asset.
  • Language: Fluency in English and a local dialect in Ghana.
