Exciting news! The Commonwealth Secretariat, OBREAL Global, Association of African Universities, and Symbiosis International University have joined forces to launch a groundbreaking initiative: the Youth Policy and International Cooperation in AI programme.

As part of this initiative, they’re establishing an ‘Effective Inter-regional Incubator for Youth’. This initiative aims to empower undergraduate and postgraduate students worldwide to transform their innovative ideas into real-world projects.

What’s the Call for Proposal About?

If you’re a student passionate about making a difference and keen on tackling global challenges, this Call for Proposals is for you! Selected individuals will receive mentorship, seed funding, and support to implement projects using AI, with a focus on promoting multilingualism.

Focus Areas:

Your proposals should focus on applying AI tools to inter-regional and multilingual learning/research processes. Additionally, they should address areas such as education, health, food security, entrepreneurship, poverty eradication, gender equality, climate change, disaster risk reduction, and the blue ocean economy.

Funding Selection:

Every year, 25 proposals will be chosen to receive up to €10,000 in seed funding. The most promising projects will receive additional funding over the following three years. Regional representation will be a priority during the selection process.

Submission and Selection:

The process involves two phases: pre-selection based on concept notes (Phase 1 Call for Proposals) and full proposal selection. An international committee of experts will oversee the process.

Eligibility:

Open to students from Commonwealth member states and non-member countries (up to three proposals in total). Each proposal must have one student project implementer, up to three co-implementers, and a mandatory faculty mentor.

Expected Outcomes:

Projects should drive innovation, product development, entrepreneurship, and potential commercialisation for use in higher education institutions and other sectors.

What is PLURAL+?

PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival is a special initiative by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). It’s a platform that invites young people from all over the world to share their unique perspectives on pressing global issues through original and imaginative videos.

Why Participate?

By submitting your video to PLURAL+, you’re not just creating art—you’re becoming a voice for positive change. In a world often divided by intolerance, PLURAL+ empowers youth to promote understanding and acceptance through the power of storytelling.

Who Can Enter?

If you’re under 25 years old and have a story to tell about migration, diversity, social inclusion, or combating xenophobia, we want to hear from you! You can participate in one of three age categories:

👧 12 years old and under 👦 13 to 17 years old 🧑 18 to 25 years old

Your video can be of any genre—animation, documentary, music video, comedy, you name it! As long as it sparks meaningful conversations about the themes of PLURAL+, it’s welcome here.

How to Enter?

Submitting your video is easy. Just make sure it meets the following criteria:

If your video gets selected, you’ll need to provide a digital copy in one of several formats. And don’t worry about technical perfection—we value creativity and storytelling above all else!

Filmmakers whose videos receive recognition will be awarded digital certificates. Even if your video doesn’t win, you’ll still receive a certificate of participation. Plus, PLURAL+ is supported by a network of international partners who are passionate about amplifying youth voices.

Powered by Watson Institute, the fellowship offers hands-on entrepreneurial training, personalized mentorship, and venture development support, providing participants with the tools to bring their innovative ideas to life.

Application Details

Applications for the Halloran Fellowship are accepted on a rolling basis, with the final deadline set for August 15th, 2024. Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur, innovator, or community leader, this fellowship could be your ticket to realizing your rural dreams.

Program Overview

The fellowship runs from September 7th to December 12th, 2024, consisting of a 14-week immersive experience. Weekly virtual workshops are complemented by localized gatherings and events, with virtual sessions held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm ET. The program kicks off with a mandatory 2-day in-person immersive experience in the Bradford Area on September 7th and 8th, 2024, followed by weekly in-person community building sessions and day trips throughout October and November.

Fellows engage in expert-led modules covering topics such as problem-solving, team management, and pitching, while also benefiting from the insights of renowned leaders and entrepreneurs who participate in the Impact Series. The fellowship culminates in a summit where fellows pitch their ventures to local leaders, funders, and entrepreneurs.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be based around Bradford, PA, and demonstrate a commitment to supporting underrepresented and underserved communities through entrepreneurship and business. Those located in or creating impact in markets across Bradford, PA are preferred. Ideal candidates possess an entrepreneurial spirit, a growth mindset, and a drive to address key community issues.

The application process involves completing an online application, followed by a review by the Admissions Committee and a one-on-one Zoom interview for qualified applicants. Notifications of acceptance are sent out on a rolling basis, and successful candidates confirm their enrollment to begin the program on September 7th, 2024.

Program Elements

A key component of the Halloran Fellowship is the Basecamp initiative, where fellows facilitate 1-2 day Impact Workshops in their communities. These events provide an opportunity for fellows to share their venture work, receive feedback, and network with local stakeholders. Through Basecamps, fellows not only grow their leadership skills but also expand their impact within the Bradford Area.
